Costumes, candy, tricks and treats. The blurry fog has lifted and some memories are finally coming back. Halloweenrace 2 was a blast.
About 50 strange cyclists with scary and odd-looking costumes took over Phoenix West for one night and turned it into one hell of a pumpkin race.
Track cyclist, Taliban and big-ass vegetables have given the other contestants a run for their money. But no one raced through the night like Asphalthelden's Stephan Reimer. He put his pedal to the medal like the devil was behind him and came in first with a time of 01:25:5s in the single-track-race. Leaving the other 12 contestants far behind. Rewarded with a brand-new messenger bag sponsored by Dock 11 for the first place and a brand-new hip bag by dock 11 for Jan and Mark for the second and third place.
Looppedaler's and Asphalthelden's very own Marvin Kramer (Team 1) went head to head with ex-bycicle courier and ex-vice world champion Rauthgundis Höschen (Team 2). What first looked like a done deal, became pretty quickly a big surprise. He hold on to the pumpkin as if his life would depend on it, pedaled like a mad man and took his chance in the curves where he passed Rauthgundis and finished first for his Team. Unlike his brother and Looppedaler's Robin Kramer, who started second in our Team 2, dropped the pumpkin and nearly fainted coming in through the finish line due to some extensive partying the night before. (Where I just nearly fainted cos i am as unathletic as it gets.) :)
18 contestants per Team , a damaged Team 2-pumpkin and a happy winning-Team 1. Rewarded with new Starrgang-collaboration T-Shirts and some bottles of sparkly for Team 1 and surprise giftbags with loads of candy for the loosers.
Too fast and too furious all through the night. Apparently the streets of Phoenix West are often hot and bothered at night. So it made perfect sense for some super-bad mofo's with four wheels under their asses to borrow our still intact pumpkin and have a race on their own. Granted they were so nice to give it back afterwards. And the police didn't seem to notice.
All in all it was an amazing event, thanks to everybody who came, participated and had fun with us. I drink to that! :)
